She has taught obstetrical nursing in an ASN program, and both breastfeeding and midwifery courses within both the undergraduate and graduate programs for midwifery students.
Penny is a certified Neonatal Resuscitation Provider course instructor and has designed a course specific for the out-of-hospital attendant, including intubation and medication administration. She and Paula Miller MSN, RN will be teaching at MANA this fall. For registration go to www.mana.org/mana2010.
Penny is trained to teach the 18-Hour Breastfeeding Curriculum. This course fulfills the UNICEF recommendations for those who work with mothers and babies. Based on the new 18 hour curriculum in support of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, this course was developed with support from the US Department of Health and Human Services for the US Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
Penny has also co-authored a birth assistant course with Paula Miller MSN, RN, CD(DONA). Their next course will be offered on November 6th and 7th. Further information can be obtained by e-mailing info@BelieveMidwiferyServices.com or visiting our facebook page.
Holly wrote her graduate thesis on postpartum doula care and is eager to educate the community on this fabulous resource.
Penny, Holly and the staff are eager to discuss Nurse Midwifery and homebirth within the community. We are available to provide a question and answer opportunity for area medical practices and hospitals so greater understanding of our scope and practice can be gained, as well as a safe transfer of care and/or collaboration can be obtained. This is a very respectful and enlightening discussion which even those most opposed to homebirth and midwifery have appreciated.
As a faith-based practice, we are also eager to discuss women's health issues as a matter of Biblical principle for women's ministries, area churches and MOPS groups.
