A Quiet Refuge

Our Grief Support Group is for parents who have suffered the loss of a baby during any stage of pregnancy or shortly after birth.

Grief and loss take time to resolve. Networking with caring, supportive, bereaved parents with similar losses, offers an opportunity to share experiences, emotions and information in a confidential, non-judgemental manner. You don't have to go through the grieving process alone.

Third Saturday of every month at 6pm in the Thorntown Office.

Because Penny is a solo midwife, please call the office and share that your are interested in joining this group, leaving your phone number, so we can notify you in the event she is called away to a birth.

Penny Lane CNM is the facilitator. She is a Resolve Through Sharing bereavement counselor and has experienced both miscarriages, and the death of her third child, Lyric Bram.

You’ll gain access to valuable resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life.

If your friend or family member is grieving, prepare to support them through:

Learn the Art of Being instead of Doing

We are human beings, not human doings. Our greatest gift is our caring presence.

Acknowledge and tend to the obvious

Grief hurts and we cannot take the pain away. But little things mean a lot.

Respect how another grieves

Grief is totally unique; we must accept that families may not grieve in the same style we would.

Get comfortable with supportive language

Saying the right words is not an innate skill. Learning how to talk with grieving families is an essential skill.

Allow yourself to hear their stories

Each family has a story and each family teaches us with their story.

Learn to welcome joyful moments

There is joy in every sorrowful occasion, we just have to look for it.

Tend to your own grief

We are all bereaved people. Doing our own healing work will allow us to give more attention to the grief needs of others.

I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Isaiah 46:3-4
